Inspirational Story

Alohomora Education Foundation

We are back with another inspirational story. We are very happy that this time we are writing about Alohomora Education Foundation. Alohomora also works in education sector. Pooja who works with Alohomora took the initiative for this Article. We thank her from the bottom of our heart for writing this. Here is the full story:

Hi friends my name is Pooja, I work with Alohomora Education Foundation as a facilitator. The organisation was started by Parinita Didi and Divakar Bhaiya in 2015. We run a program in 9 government schools and communities of Delhi. It's a nonprofit organisation. We work with 11th and 12th-grade students to make them Self Aware and Independent learners so they can prepare themselves to achieve their life goals. To achieve this, we run a program in schools which is divided into three parts: Digital Literacy, Self-learning Project and Career Readiness. We take sessions with the students to help them realize how much potential they have and how they can find their career interests by themselves.

I work with 11th-grade students in Kalkaji School. I faced many challenges when I started facilitating sessions in the classroom, such as talking to the principal, and my biggest challenge was managing a big class of 35-40 students. Then I started sharing my experiences and problems with my team. I got very helpful and useful feedback from everyone which helped me so much in my session facilitation and now I am facilitating independently in Kalkaji school.

One day after finishing the session I was coming back home with a student from my class in the same auto. I asked her about her aspirations for future to which she replied that "I don't want to become anything in the future because I don't think my family will support me as my siblings and I have been living with my uncle's family after my parents' death. My uncle doesn't want us to go out and study further". Then she went on in a flow to share her life issues, without thinking, as if she was longing for someone to hear her out. There are so many students like her who want to share their stories like this.

In Alohomora we provide that safe space/environment for students where they can share their opinions, experiences and ask questions based on their curiosity and dreams in their life.

We provide them that safe space through our program. Now we are starting our program in Gurugram also so we are looking for more people who can help us in the program execution in schools.
